The Central Information Commission has summoned Delhi Police in connection with the Batla House encounter case on February 9.
This follows an RTI application from Afroz Alam Sahil, a student of the Jamia Millia Islamia, who sought to know details of the case.
In the application filed on September 25, 2008, six days after the encounter, Sahil sought to know the number of people killed in the encounter with their personal details, post-mortem report of each of them and copy of the FIR if filed on the day of the encounter.
He got no response and filed the first appeal.
On October 31, 2008, he got a reply from Delhi Police that three people were killed in the encounter and an FIR was lodged in the case.
He was not given a copy of the FIR and post-mortem reports.
Sahil approached the CIC again on January 27, 2009, on the ground that complete information was not given to him. On Friday, he got a letter from the CIC asking him to be present before Information Commissioner Sushma Singh on February 9.
Two suspected militants and a senior policeman were killed in the encounter which took place in Delhi’s Batla House. One of the suspects, Shehzad, believed to be an Indian Mujahideen operative was caught, while one Junaid managed to flee.
