Rs one lakh a month on newspapers!

That's PMO's expenditure on subscription of 45 magazines and 43 daily newspapers, shows a reply to an RTI request

The Prime Minister office (PMO) spent Rs. 11,92,910 on subsriptions of 45 magazines and 43 daily newspapers for the year 2009-10, according to information released under the RTI Act.

The expenditure on magazines and newspapers in the last financial year, which comes to more than Rs 99,000 per month, is little less than Rs 12,09,505 spent in 2008-09,shows the official response to an RTI request made by Afroz Alam Sahil, an information seeker.

Out of the 45 magazines, which have been subscribed by the PMO, most are in Hindi and English language; there is one in Bengali. Daily newspapers are mostly in English, Hindi and Urdu and one each in Marathi, Malayalam, Bengali, Gujarati and Punjabi language.
